Practice, practice, practice for your audition! You're going to do great!
Auditions look a little different for each age group, so be sure to review your student’s to-do list, audition information, and materials before audition day. Most importantly, don’t worry! Each audition is designed to be a fun, supportive, and age-appropriate experience that gives students a chance to experience a real theatrical audition. Our team will guide students through each step along the way as we want everyone to feel comfortable, confident, and excited to give it their best!
Students in grades 1–3 will register for a 30-minute audition time. Each 1st-3rd grade student will particpate in a group dance and perform a short solo song for their audition. The audition is designed to be a positive and encouraging experience, helping directors get to know each student’s musical abilities in a low-pressure setting.
Audition Process
Group Dance:
Students will learn and perform a short group dance together. This portion of the audition should take approximately 10 minutes or less. The dance is designed to be a fun, age-appropriate introduction to the audition process. It gives our directors an opportunity to see how students follow directions, participate in a group, and respond to simple movements.
‼️Students are not expected to memorize the dance or perform it perfectly. Dance ability will not determine a student’s role or ensemble placement.
Song:
After the dance, students will be divided into smaller groups and called into one of two audition rooms for the singing portion of their audition. Students will sing one of the following songs:
A Spoonful of Sugar
My Favorite Things
The Bare Necessities
Happy Birthday
Audition Materials:

Students in grades 4-8 will register for a 60-minute audition time. Each 4th-8th grade student will particpate in a group dance, perform a short solo song, and have the option to read for a named role for their audition. The audition is designed to be a positive and encouraging experience, helping directors get to know each student’s musical abilities in a low-pressure setting.

Acting — Named Roles Only:
Students who indicate that they would like to be considered for a named role will be called in with a small group of students from their audition hour to read selections from the provided acting sides. Students interested in ensemble only do not need to participate in the acting portion and may leave after completing their dance and singing auditions.
Interested in a Named Role?
Students in grades 4th–8th may choose to audition for a named role.
Students in grades 4 and 5 will be considered alongside middle school students. Our directors are open to casting younger students in named roles when they are the right fit for the character and the overall production.
Participating in the acting portion of the audition does not guarantee a named role. Casting decisions will be based on each student’s audition and the overall needs of the production. Students who are not cast in a named role will still be part of the ensemble.
